Fund raising for Cancer Research UK

Students (in white t-shirts) Kerri Probert, Lisa George and Nicola PlattsStudents from the BA and FdA Marketing Events Management degree planned, organised and implemented a number of live events projects last summer, which in total raised over £1500 for Cancer Research UK.

The students put on a series of challenging and innovative events which demonstrated the students' ability to work in teams and put into action much of the theory learnt in their first 2 years.

Events included two music events Jazz Fusion and Crash the Canal – a Vampire Masquerade ball, a UCB Game Show and the Lipstick Revolution – a ladies only evening.

Erasmus (European exchange) students were also involved and organised a very successful evening for International Students.

Miranda Williams, Area Fundraising Manager for Cancer Research UK came in to meet the students and is shown here with lecturer Sarah Edwards and students who organised a fashion show called Funky Runway.

Sarah said "The students can find the organisation of a live event quite a challenging project. However, all students benefit from it, and ultimately learn from the experience. Working for a client brings a realistic element to the project, and it is great to be able to support such a worthwhile charity as Cancer Research UK.

"The University College hopes to continue to build this relationship and others in the local community as it develops live events across a range of programmes."
