Ready, Steady, Book!
With most students content with getting a job and maybe a little travel over the summer, 3rd year Culinary Arts Student Ben Ebbrell has published a book, set up a website, toured the country and taken part in the filming of a daytime television show.
To find out how this came about we need to go back to January of this year and like the start of many a brilliant idea plans were scribbled on the back of a beer mat in a pub in Hertfordshire.
Ben and 7 friends had attended 6th form together, the end of which saw them going their separate ways across the country. Meeting up again their conversation led to food and how as students it had been difficult to eat cheaply and healthily – so that’s when Ben stepped in and the idea of a cookery book was spawned.
A release date of August 14th (A-Level results day) was set and despite industry professionals telling them it couldn’t be done – it launched on that day with an accompanying web site, you-tube videos and even a mobile trailer to aid with the promotion.
The publication of the book and subsequent press interest led to an appearance on Ready Steady Cook with the boys being invited to put together the bag of ingredients for the quick challenge – the show will be aired in October.
Packed with tasty recipes the book also contains tips and tricks to get through student life and would be an ideal gift for anyone moving away from home.
The book, SORTED: A Recipe for Student Survival, is available from their own website www.sortedstudents.com and on-line at Amazon.
