Stylish heads
Hairdressing students have created hairstyles from different eras to feature in a new exhibition which has opened at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.
The Level 3 NVQ students researched different African Caribbean hair styles and techniques used over the years and recreated them on special model heads that are used for hairdressing training in the salons.
A short film of the students at work in the salons has also been made to feature in the interactive exhibition.
Carol Moore, Hairdressing lecturer, University College Birmingham, said: "The project has given a great opportunity for the students to improve their styling skills and develop their creative ideas. Working with the Museum has been great and the students are looking forward to seeing their work on display to the public".
Liz Braby, Audience Development Officer, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery said: "The students worked really hard to create some excellent styles and their contribution has bought an exciting extra dimension to the exhibition."
The exhibition, which is called HAIR: Community Stories from Birmingham, runs until March 2009.
