Student awarded gold in MARCHE awards

Andrew Sargent with his awardThe Midland Association of Restaurants, Caterers, Hotels and Entertainment (MARCHE) recently held a competition here at the college to find the top Food and Beverage Service Assistant, with UCB student Andrew Sargent taking the Gold Award.

The aim of MARCHE is to raise standards and promote customer satisfaction within the industries they represent; the awards were established in 1997 to encourage training, motivation and team building for organisations operating within the hospitality and leisure industries.

Had to lay a table for four covers then serve a 3 course meal with wine and coffee.

After successfully completing NVQ Level 2 in Professional Cookery last year Andrew wanted to gain experience front of house which led him on to the Food and Drink service course. Next year Andrew plans to take a Level 3 Qualification which will gain him entry onto a Foundation Degree then hopefully a career in management.

Chef Lecturer Andrew Bisconti said "whilst Andrew is a student at the college the competition is open to industry which means the standard he had to beat was very high, the results reflected Andrew’s attention to detail and high standards as well as his natural flair in the industry. Andrew is being trained for other competitions combining both his kitchen and restaurant skills".
