Industry visits a success
Birmingham's leading Hippodrome Theatre and the stylish Hotel Du Vin Birmingham were the destinations for two recent industry visits by Events Management and Hospitality With Licensed Retail Management students.
At the Hippodrome, Meetings and Events Co-ordinator, Damien Vincent, gave a talk on how his career started and what’s involved in his job and the skills needed to be successful in the industry. Following his talk the students enjoyed a tour of the theatre and restaurant.
At Hotel du Vin, the Hospitality with Licensed Retail Management students met Bars Manager, Ben Mulvaney who also highlighted why he chose a career in the licensed trade and how he rose to his current position within Hotel Du Vin. Ben also led a discussion on the effects of the recent smoking ban on hotels and bars.
Julian Robinson, Hospitality Lecturer said:
"Industry visits give an excellent opportunity for students to meet people who are doing the kind of jobs they would look to do in the future and hear first hand of what's involved and the skills needed to be successful. Students feedback to us the kind of visits they are particularly interested in and our thanks go to the Hippodrome and Hotel du Vin for their support. They really enjoyed the visits and found the experience useful."
