Students take a lesson from the past
A group of students from the College's Early Childhood Studies programmes recently visited the Black Country Museum to see how attitudes to childhood and education have changed over the years.
Around 90 first years, who have just started on the BA (Hons) and FdA programmes, went along to the tourist attraction, where they saw re-creations of a Victorian school and family homes and businesses from the West Midlands' industrial past.
On their return to the College, the students had to give a presentation to their classmates on what they had learned.
Lecturer Alaina Lally said: "This visit helped to develop the students’ presentation and group work skills, as well as being a chance for them to find out how childcare practices have changed, which helps to put what they’ve learned into context.
"This was the first time we had run this visit, but all the students enjoyed it and we hope to return again next year."
