Guild welcomes new arrivals

The College football teams prepare to sign up some new recruitsAs the College welcomed another intake of first years onto its degree programmes for 2007, the Guild of Students was, as always, on hand to help them settle in.

Freshers 14 began on September 24, and featured two weeks of fun activities to help new arrivals get to know the College, the city and each other.

As well as night-time visits to some of Birmingham's best student nightspots, there was also plenty going on at the Guild's own bar, including the showpiece Pirates of Bar One night, featuring Radio One DJs Dick and Dom.

Daytime activities included a trip to Alton Towers and the annual Freshers' Fair, which gave students the chance to join Guild clubs and societies, and pick up special offers and promotions aimed at them.

Guild President Chris Edwards said: "We put on a great line-up of social events at different venues, and used the newly-refurbished Bar One for the first time, which was excellent.

"All of our events sold out, and we sold over 400 wristbands, which gave students access to all the activities which took place during the fortnight. Everyone who came along to some or all of our events seemed to have a great time."

Freshers Roshni Kacha and Pam SohalAt the Freshers' Fair, new arrivals were taking the opportunity to find out more about what the Guild had to offer them.

New BA (Hons) Tourism Business Management student Pam Sohal said: "I decided to study at the College because I liked the course and the specialist nature of what was taught.

"I've gone to several of the social events over the past few weeks, which I really enjoyed and I’ve been made to feel very welcome so far."
