Guild support children's charity

Members of the Guild hand over the cheque to Hope House's Vanessa LloydThe new Student Guild executive headed off to the Welsh borders this week to present the proceeds of their fundraising over the previous year to the Hope House hospice in Oswestry.

The Guild has been supporting the charity - which offers care to life-limited children in the region - for the past four years, and this year were able to hand over £750.

It costs around £3.5million per year to run Hope House's two hospices in Oswestry and Conwy, and they rely on gifts from the public for 95 per cent of that amount.

The money was raised through a series of activities by the Guild the sale of wristbands, special events at the Guild bar and, for the first time, a public street collection in the city centre.

Guild president Chris Edwards said: "We've supported Hope House for several years now and they do brilliant work, so we were delighted to help out again.

"We're now busy planning how to raise funds for the hospice again next year."

"We are also in the process of building a new play area, which will cost around £150,000, so any money we receive at the moment will help towards that as well."
