Competition winners announced

Oliver Kerr’s photoTwo talented students have proved they are picture perfect by triumphing in a photography contest organised by the College.

Oliver Kerr and Frankie Billington were chosen from almost 100 entries as winners of the Adventure Tourism Photography Competition 2007, which was open to students on all courses.

Ollie's photo showed a row of clothes drying on a balcony, and was taken after a hard day’s trek in Madagascar during the rainy season, which he completed as part of his Adventure Tourism degree.

Sports Management student Frankie's picture featured two walkers looking back at the spectacular mountain scenery behind them in Snowdonia National Park, North Wales.

The competition was judged by Cordelia Noble from Noble Photography and College adventure tourism lecturer and editor of the Walking Britain website Lou Johnson.

Frankie Billington’s photoLou said: "The response was nearly 100 images, which were of excellent quality, making judging quite difficult. The theme was an image that summed up adventure and the two winning images were felt to do just that."

Oliver and Frankie were both presented with vouchers worth £50 to spend on photography products as reward for their efforts.

The competition had a £100 first prize, but it was felt by the judges that this should be split into two £50 prizes due to the difficulty in choosing an outright winner from the high standard of work.

The College will stage a photography competition again next year, on the theme of Faces.
