The show must go on for tourism students

The students on stage at PontinsUnsuspecting guests at a holiday park in Somerset were treated to some extra entertainment when a group of tourism students from the College put on a musical performance.

Students on the National Diploma Travel and Tourism course have to participate in a show of some sort as part of their Animation and Entertainment module, and the College's links with industry helped them secure a slot at the Pontins resort in Brean Sands.

Of the 39 students who took part, only a small number had any previous performing arts experience, but that did not stop them staging a spectacular song and dance routine based on various popular musicals.

Around 800 holidaymakers saw the show, which started off with performances from the students in smaller groups, before all of them came together for a 'Grease' number at the end.

Lecturer Bev Lord said: "Some of the students were very nervous beforehand, but they all ended up enjoying it, and really gained in confidence as a result.

"So many people came up to me and other members of staff after the event to say how well they had done. We were all really proud of them."

The students' time at the holiday park also contributed to the residential visit requirement of their course, as they had the chance to work alongside staff and see how the business worked.
