College shows baking expertise

The College's Clive Martin and Ross Jones at the Taste of Birmingham showThe College's expertise in the bakery sector was on show to visitors at the recent Taste of Birmingham show, when lecturers Clive Martin and Ross Jones demonstrated the production of three different types of bread.

The event, in Cannon Hill Park, allowed visitors to sample dishes from some of Birmingham's top restaurants, as well as speciality food and drink producers and celebrity chefs.

The College was invited to stage demonstrations at the Chefs' Theatre and Producers' Market, where Clive and Ross prepared three recipes - a foccacia bread, a sultana and walnut bread and a basic white loaf.

Visitors were able to sample the different varieties and could also take the recipes home to make for themselves.

Clive said: "We showed people how to make three different types of doughs - mixing and forming them on stage.

"We had a good-sized crowd, and there was good interaction with them - they asked us plenty of questions and lots of them came up at the end for samples and recipes."
