Salon Management students to stage spectacular show

HND students Laura-Jane Whitfield, Cat Tolley, Donica Dhamelia, Becci Elsmere, Jodie Papworth and Sophia LalStudents on the College's HND Salon Management course will be putting their practical and management skills to the test when they stage an ambitious fashion show at the city's Jam House next week.

The nine students, who are studying on the hairdressing pathway of the course, have been working on their plans for about three months, using their hairdressing skills and business knowledge.

The show, under the title Vivacity, will showcase styles on a variety of themes - including animals, Bollywood, spring and summer, the 1980s and Superheroes -designed by the students to show off their creative skills.

The students organise every aspect of the show from choosing the theme, choreography and styling, to finding models, selecting a venue and fulfilling health and safety requirements. They will also stage a full dress rehearsal before the event itself.

Lecturer Nikki Brydon said: "This event is a major part of our students' assessment, and the more people that come to watch, the better it is for them.

"The HND Salon Management course teaches management skills as well as hairdressing, and this show is a great way to put everything they've learned into practice. The skills they learn by doing this will also stand them in good stead for their future careers or further study."

The event takes place on Monday, May 14, and is set to be compered by Sacha Brooks from Galaxy Radio. Any money collected on the day will be donated to Cancer Research
