Students spread healthy eating message
A group of second year students from the College has been teaching youngsters at a school in the city about the importance of healthy eating.
The five representatives from the Food and Consumer Management degree course worked with pupils at St Patrick's School to make healthy and delicious fruit and vegetable-based dishes.
They spent time with all of the classes at the school, with pupils aged from four to eleven. The younger children were helped to make fruit kebabs, where they put different pieces of fruit onto straws, while the older groups made pitta wraps, with lots of fresh vegetables.
Our students also showed some of the classes how to blend a variety of fruits together to make a smoothie.
The event was lead by Food and Consumer Management student Amanda Cadman, who said: "The school invited us in, as they were having a healthy eating week – they had already learned about exercise and nutrition, and wanted to do a practical session.
"It was a good experience for those of us who want to go into teaching, and the youngsters all seemed to like fruit and veg already, which was good to see."
