Students prepare to Raise and Give again

Raise and Give (R.A.G)The College's Student Guild is hard at work once again, preparing to raise money for charity during its annual Raise And Give (RAG) week.

This year's fundraising marathon will take place from Saturday, April 21 to Monday, April 30. The Guild will continue to donate proceeds to the Hope House Children's Hospice in Wales, which last year received a cheque for £2,000 from the Guild's activities.

During the week several fundraising activities will take place at the Maltings' Bar One, as well as in and around College. Present plans include a slave auction, a Ready Steady Cook event, and a special theme night at Bar One. Many more ideas are also in the pipeline.

Members of the Guild hand over the proceeds of last year’s RAG week to Hope House HospiceRAG weeks have a long history at universities and Colleges in the UK. Although their exact origin is unknown, it dates at least to Victorian times, when students collected rags to give to the poor.

Guild welfare officer Michael Little said: "This year we hope to at least equal the amount we were able to raise last year and are really excited about re-launching RAG week. This really is our very own Cinderella story – we expect to turn rags to riches and Hope House really is a very worthy cause."
