Beauty students give carers a treat
A group of Beauty students from the College recently helped to give city residents who provide voluntary care for others a well-deserved treat.
Hayley Elmes, Laura Lea, Natalie Spooner and Samera Bi, who are all on the College's NVQ Level 2 Beauty course, provided manicures and basic make-up techniques during the open day arranged by Birmingham Carers at their offices in Colmore Row.
The group represents the views of anyone who looks after a relative, friend or neighbour, and does not receive payment for doing so. It helps them in their dealings with the NHS and local authorities, and campaigns on their behalf when necessary.
The day was organised to give carers a chance to unwind and take a break from their work, with various companies and organisations coming in to offer treatments.
Beauty lecturer Harprit Thacker said: "The students who took part all volunteered to do this work. In return they were paid a small fee, but also gained valuable experience in working with the public, promoting the hair and beauty services we offer at the College, building their customer care skills and building confidence.
"The girls did very well and will be asked to represent the College again in April at the next open day, which will be for the elderly."
