College spreads hygiene message

One of the pupils at work in the kitchenThe College recently helped to promote the importance of good food hygiene to teenage school pupils from across Birmingham.

Ten teams of 13 to 14-year-olds took part in the final of the Healthy Tums in Brum contest, competing to create a nutritional and tasty two-course meal in 90 minutes, while also being judged on their food handling and hygiene skills.

The competition was organised to raise awareness of the 4 Cs of food hygiene - cooking, cleaning, chilling and cross-contamination.

The teams were competing for a £500 prize after winning heats in their area of the city last year, as part of the contest organised by Birmingham City Council.
