Getting Ready

The thought of coming to live in a new city, to study in a new Institution and to speak a language, which is not your mother tongue, can present a great challenge and in some cases, a certain amount of anxiety before your journey begins.

This need not be so, with the help of these few easy tips, your preparation will ensure that your arrival in Birmingham will be trouble free and that your first stage of academic study will run smoothly:

Where will you live?

Consider where you are going to live. If you would like to live in the college managed accommodation in modern, city centre surroundings or would prefer private accommodation in the City or surrounding areas we can help you. Please see our Accommodation page for more details.

Tuition Fees

International Student from outside the EU

Think about your tuition fees. If you are an International Student from outside the EU you should look at the information about Tuition Fees.

EU National Student

If you are an EU National, it is quite possible that you will receive help in paying your tuition fees and you should look at the information regarding Tuition Fees.

Part-Time Employment

Whilst in Birmingham, you may wish to take on a part time job, as well as providing you with additional funds working will help improve your English language skills and understanding of UK culture. Don't forget to bring with you an up to date CV (Resume) and the names of some referees. For more information visit our Job Shop.

English Language

Remember that your English Language skills will be a major factor in helping you to be a success in your chosen programme of study. If you are not totally confident with your English why not take part in one of our pre-sessional intensive English Programmes or additional English classes throughout the year. Banks

Will you need to open a bank account during your time in Birmingham? If so, talk to the local banks in your area and find out if they have links or agreements with any of the large UK banking institutions. If not, do not worry as you will be given expert advice on how to open an account within a few days of arriving in Birmingham.

Medical Treatment

Are you receiving medical treatment in your own country? Do you need any special medication? Please inform us of any specific medical requirements you may have so that we can advise you regarding your stay in Birmingham, information about how we support the Health and Wellbeing of Students.

Personal Safety

It is important for anyone living abroad to learn the best ways to keep safe in their new country.
