Taster Days

Taster days are suitable for Year 10 and 11 students and are available in the following areas:

  • Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy
  • Childcare
  • Health Studies and Health and Social Care
  • Travel and Tourism
  • Chef, Food Service, Bakery and Confectionery and Hospitality Management

To join one you need to complete a Taster Day form and return it to us. We will then let you know the next available date for your chosen subject area. Don't worry if the date is not convenient. Just let us know and we will rearrange for the next one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who may attend?

Most of our Taster Day visitors go to High School or College, but anyone who is interested in our Further Education courses may come to our Taster Days. Attendance is by invitation only as there are a limited number of spaces available - please call 0121 232 4300 to register an interest.

Is there an age limit?

No - we welcome students of all ages.

What do I wear?

You do not need to wear anything special - comfortable, casual clothing is fine. If you are interested in the chef catering, restaurant service, hospitality or bakery courses, please note that there will be practical sessions and it can get hot in the kitchens.

Who do I report to on the day?

Please report to the ground floor reception desk in our main building in Summer Row (see map), and explain that you are attending a Taster Day. You will be asked to wait for a member of staff to greet you.

What happens if I am going to be late or can't attend?

Please call the Marketing Unit on 0121 232 4300 and someone will be able to advise you.

How long will the Taster Days be?

This depends on the subject but general details are as follows:

  • Chef Catering/Restaurant Service/Hospitality/Bakery : All day
  • Hairdressing/Beauty Therapy : Three hours
  • Childcare : Two hours
  • Sport/Tourism : Two hours
  • Health Studies/Health and Social Care : Two hours

What will happen during the day?

You will be asked to sign in, then you will be given a short talk about the College. There will be a tour, a practical session and a specific presentation on the subject of your choice. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask any questions.

Do I need permission from my school to come?

Yes. Please let your school know - you can show them your invitation.

How do I find the College?

The College is a short walk from bus stops, rail stations and the Metro. Please see College map for directions to the main building in Summer Row.
