Modern Languages

At UCB we recognise the importance of gaining skills in more than one language, particularly in the hospitality, leisure and tourism industries. Increasing competition for jobs will mean that the ability to offer another language, even at beginners’ level, will make a candidate much more marketable to potential employers.

Any student at UCB can enrol for a language class, with a choice of the following:

  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Spanish

They can select the appropriate level from:

  • Beginners
  • Improvers
  • Lower Intermediate
  • Upper intermediate
  • Advanced (Modern Languages and Cultural Studies)

Language classes are taught over a semester (giving those students who wish to, the opportunity to work up through the levels or to choose different languages, during each semester of their course). Taught by a team of talented linguists, including native speakers, and using the latest facilities and digital technology, students will acquire practical skills (from booking accommodation at beginners’ level, to applying for a job at advanced level) which will help them on their chosen career path.
