Early Childhood Studies BA (Hons) / FdA
The childcare sector is rapidly diversifying and there is a growing need for highly trained staff who are knowledgeable, flexible and adaptable.
These Programmes aim to provide students with a high level of academic knowledge and practical skills in the development and education of young children, It also concentrates on helping them develop important management skills with children.
The College's close contact with the childcare sector means a wide range of placements are available and expert placement officers ensure that placements and students are well matched and student progress is closely monitored. All staff have industry experience in a variety of settings.
Those completing the BA with a satisfactory placement report in each setting will also achieve Practitioner Status, which enables them to work in Early Years settings as a qualified member of staff. The course has been approved for this purpose through the DfES.
There is scope to work within child-related organisations in the state, voluntary and commercial sectors within fields such as education, welfare, leisure and advocacy.
This course is covered by a Code of Professional Conduct and Fitness to Practise .
International Students: as part of your Early Childhood Studies degree you are required to complete 400 hours of successful work based practice working with children and/or vulnerable adults. In order for you to undertake this requirement you will need to secure a letter of good conduct from your local police station and bring it with you at the commencement of the course. Without this letter you will not be able to attend placement and therefore unable to complete one of the core modules. Students who wish to teach will be able to apply to the PGCE (Early Years) at UCB directly from this degree course, there is also the opportunity to go onto a Masters level programme.
