Sports Therapy Clinic

The UCB Sports Therapy Clinics provide affordable Sports Therapy Services in a closely supervised (by our Sports Therapy Lecturing Team) student lead environment.

A Sports Therapist is a practitioner who:

  • Has the knowledge and ability to provide first aid and attend to injuries in a recreational, training and competitive environment.
  • Has the knowledge and ability to assess and, where appropriate, refer on for specialist advice and intervention.
  • Has the knowledge and ability to provide sports massage pre and post activity.
  • Has the knowledge and ability to implement appropriate rehabilitation programmes.
  • Has the knowledge to utilise sports and exercise principles to optimise preparation and injury prevention programmes.

Our BSc (Hons) Sports Therapy students offer a variety of services and are trained to assess and treat patients presenting with musculoskeletal injuries caused either through participation in sport or the mere rigours of everyday life.  There is a wide range of patient types who attend the clinic from the professional athlete through university level athlete and to the general public.

  •  Exercise prescription
  •  Rehabilitation programmes
  •  Injury prevention strategies
    The College has two sports therapy clinics, each having a full range of professional equipment including ultra-sound/ electrotherapy equipment with a rehabilitation area including the use of a fully equipped gym.  (photo of clinic)

The clinic is open to members of the public as well as current students and staff at UCB.

The UCB Sports Therapy department offers sports therapy and strength and conditioning support to Student Guild sports teams. Sports therapy support in the form of injury assessment, treatment and rehabilitation services at training, matches and at the College’s sports injury clinic is provided. Strength and conditioning support is in the form of pre-season screening and fitness testing, individual and team programming, and specific strength and conditioning coaching sessions.  

 

Day and evening appointments are available on the following days:

  • Monday
  • Tuesday
  • Thursday
  • Friday

Fees:

Treatment: £5.00 per session

Sports teams registered on scheme via the Guild; 1 free session per week (Thursdays)

 

What to expect on attending the clinic:

On the first appointment a detailed case history is taken, followed by a thorough examination. This will last up to one hour.

Where appropriate patients should wear suitable attire or bring a change of clothes as necessary, for example shorts for a lower limb injury.

Please be aware that the services provided are for training purposes, and at times, cases may be discussed for learning purposes.

We use the information you share with us to enable student Sports Therapists and their tutors to make effective decisions with you about your care. We may also use your information for differing purposes:

  • In the teaching and training of Sports Therapists.
  • To audit processes and practices.
  • In health research, but no research procedure will be performed which represents a risk to you or adversely affects the services provided without further written consent.

Your personal identifiable information will never be passed to any third party and all information given is treated with confidence and protected by the data protection act.
